Bay Area, October 18

Our next Bay Area Tech Solidarity meetup will take place on Wednesday, October 18 at 6:30 PM at 1128 Howard Street in SOMA (San Francisco).

We’ll have two very special guests:

Jennifer Friedenbach, Executive Director of the Coalition on Homelessness in San Francisco.

Jonathan Smucker, author of Hegemony How-To: A Roadmap for Radicals, executive director of Beyond the Choir, and co-founder of the grassroots organization Lancaster Stands Up.

Jonathan will discuss Lancaster Stands Up (LSU), a new organization that emerged in central Pennsylvania—so-called "Trump country"—in the wake of the 2016 election. How did an organization that didn’t even exist last October build an active base of over 3,000 people since then? How does it continue to grow, add capacity, and maintain momentum, when so many resistance efforts have been losing steam? And how is this happening in an area that has not seen a comparable level of grassroots organization in modern history?

Jonathan will describe how LSU uses familiar values-based language to mobilize beyond the usual suspects, and how the organization is providing opportunities for everyday working people to get involved in the political process — including through a burgeoning canvass operation to help flip five congressional districts in 2018.

Everyone is welcome! There will be donuts!

The event will run until 8:30 PM, with some time afterward to mingle.

Please RSVP to maciej@ceglowski.com (or Signal: +1 415 610 0231) so I can have a rough head count.
